"Thank you", the teachers said when we paid them at the end of the class. And this was the only word they ever told us in the whole 90 minutes we spent with them. My partner felt a bit angry for not getting any attention. Four other couples of pupils were there and they got their share of corrections, hints, help; the guys had a chance to lead the female teacher, and the male one checked the girls as well.
"Do you think they don't like us, and want us to leave?", she suggested.
Sure it was not the vast number of people that prevented the teachers from coming to us, as we were 10 students.
Maybe we were doing fine and there was nothing to correct. Ha ha. Unlikely, as two of the other couples were A.T teachers themselves and despite of this got a lot of advices and help.
Maybe, on the opposite, we were hopeless and they felt no need to waste their time with our incurable bad habits coming from ballroom and salsa. But then we would have felt hopeless too. And yesterday I was feeling comfortable with all the exercises.
Why then were they acting like we were transparent? Maybe, our imperfections regarding the volcadas (what the class was about), and which would have required corrections, were hidden by more profound, essential weaknesses like tension in the upper body, bad abrazo, unsufficient hip/chest twist, whatever. It might be that.
Or maybe, these teachers who built a very progressive and coherent series of classes, a long-term one where you're supposed to attend week after week after week for years, are feeling somewhat offended when seeing us skip most of their classes since we signed in.
Do you know what the ego is? The ego is the little argentine who lives inside of us.

Knowing that:
my Monday partner is half swede and half korean, and that she attends one class out of three,
my Tuesday partner is half argentine and half local, and attends every second class,
my Wednesday partner is a local and attends every second class,
my Thursday partner is italian and attends two classes out of three,
do I get more local tango than if instead of my four partners I had only one steady local partner who would take one weekly lesson and would attend every class?

Aha, 15 classes, all nuevo-oriented. Not that I'm feeling any better and ready for nuevo this year, but the teachers themselves have had time enough now to know how to teach the elements (volcadas, colgadas...), it's not research-tango any more, it has become common stuff, they'll know how to explain us how it works.
As I've signed for many advanced classes, and as I don't want to ruin the festival of followers who will attend the same classes, and will all be, unlike me, actually advanced, I'll be hiring local taxi-girls. It's only fair, this way the advanced students won't have to dance with me.
So here is how it goes:
Chicho Frumboli & Lucia Mazer: colgadas, combinations, soltadas.
Fabian Salas & Carolina del Rivero: basic colgadas, basic volcadas, combined volcadas, tomadas, advanced combinations, complex combinations.
Sebastian Arce & Mariana Montes: untypical volcadas, piernazos, combinations of untipical volcadas.
Damian Rosenthal & Celine Ruiz: combined colgadas, soltadas, combined volcadas.
